Do not chase bills on Monday. Set four numbers on Sunday

Australia’s cash rate remains at 4.35%, with the next RBA rate update due on 11 August. Instead of spending the week predicting rates, use today to write down four numbers that directly affect household cash flow.
Number one: your real housing cost
Do not stop at the mortgage repayment. Average council rates, strata or body corporate fees, insurance and basic maintenance into a monthly figure. That shows how much of your income the home actually uses.
Number two: next week’s committed spending
List the next seven days of mortgage or rent, credit cards, car loans, school costs, insurance and major bills. Fund the essentials before deciding on other spending.
Number three: cash you can actually use
Separate the transaction account, offset, emergency savings and upcoming direct debits. The balance visible in an account is not always available to spend.
Number four: your minimum safety line
Choose a cash level you do not normally cross. If spending runs above plan, delay something optional before automatically filling the gap with a credit card.
Finally, put one financial job in next week’s calendar: update income documents, complete a pre-approval file, ask about the current loan rate or recalculate repayment capacity. Completing one useful task beats worrying about ten.
A Sunday money reset is not about turning life into a spreadsheet. It means starting Monday knowing which dollars already have a job and which dollars can stay protected.
Available Cash: Money genuinely available after upcoming essential payments.
Housing Cost: Mortgage or rent plus the regular and averaged costs of keeping the home.
Cash Floor: A minimum household cash level that is not normally used.
