Self-employed with a payslip: is that enough for a home loan?

Not necessarily. Having a payslip from your own company does not, by itself, establish that you qualify for streamlined income verification or that your home loan application is complete. Confirm the applicable pathway before relying on someone else's document checklist.

Simpler verification still comes with conditions

ANZ's current business-owner home-loan page, checked on 15 October 2026, describes a conditional streamlined option for self-employed company directors and shareholders receiving regular company wages. It also says further information, such as an individual tax return and ATO Notice of Assessment, may be requested. The page excludes ANZ Plus products. Other lenders and applicants can have different requirements.

The practical lesson is to connect the document to the person and business behind it. A payroll sheet alone does not explain company ownership, the history of payments, other commitments or the whole financial position.

Three questions before collecting the papers

Three equal-weight self-employed mortgage preparation checks: company role, wage records and tax documentation

ROLE: explain whether you are a sole trader, company director, shareholder or another type of business owner. Ask the lender or broker which assessment pathway applies to your actual structure; do not assume a company-wage option also applies to every sole trader.

PAY: prepare the relevant payslip and income records and check the periods they cover. Ask whether further wage-history or other evidence is needed. Do not create or relabel records just to resemble a simpler application.

TAX: organise lodged tax records and assessments, then confirm which years and financial statements are required for your case. Refer missing, inconsistent or tax-sensitive records to an accountant rather than guessing the treatment.

Use a clear preparation scenario, not an approval assumption

For example, an owner has a recent payslip but does not know which income period the lender will require. The next step is not to assume the application is complete: clarify the pathway and obtain the matching records. This is an illustrative documentation scenario, not a customer case or prediction of approval.

Prepare your home-loan discussion

Bring your company-role details, current income evidence, existing commitments and any requested tax records. BV Finance can help organise the lending questions; the lender sets evidence requirements and decides eligibility and approval. Accounting and tax advice remain separate.
