RBA decides today: does your mortgage change today?

The Reserve Bank of Australia is scheduled to announce its monetary-policy decision at 2:30 pm AEST on 29 September 2026. That announcement is an important market event, but it does not automatically alter every home-loan rate and repayment at the same moment.
The cash rate is an overnight money-market rate set by the RBA. It strongly influences other interest rates, including mortgage and deposit rates, but the rate written into a home-loan contract is set by the lender and the product terms.
The RBA rate and your loan rate are different

For a variable-rate loan, each lender decides whether to change its customer rate, by how much and from what effective date. The lender's notice and the repayment schedule therefore matter more to an individual household than the headline alone.
A fixed-rate portion normally stays at its contracted rate during the fixed period. Check the fixed-period end date, the revert rate that may apply afterwards and any break costs before changing the loan early.
Read the sequence after the decision

First, identify the RBA decision. Next, wait for the lender's notice and confirm whether the loan rate is changing, by how much and on what date. Then find the first scheduled repayment affected by that effective date.
Two lenders may respond on different days or by different amounts. Even within one household, variable and fixed portions may move on different timelines. Keep enough cash-flow room for the repayment shown in the lender's updated schedule.
Check the notice, not only the headline
BV Finance can help compare the current rate, the updated repayment, loan features and switching costs. Any recommendation or approval still depends on the borrower's circumstances, the property, product terms and lender assessment.
